I'm back!!! Hopefully not affected by any virus.. Many people were wearing masks on board. I bought masks but I did not know where I packed it. I think it's still with him, maybe I will wear it when I leave for Bangkok tomorrow.
Day 1 Reached Taipei but we were quite lost initially. My excellent sense of direction seems to be deteriorating as I grow older, can't even orientate myself. In the end we did find our hotel, not too far from the City hall of Taipei MRT - Taipei Main Station. It was quite a nice hotel, small but sufficient and I simply love the toilet even though there wasn't any bathtub. Went to Gong Guan Night Market and it was not a bad place, a number of trendy shops and food stores.
Day 2 Proceeded to Living Mall with the gigantic dome. Was a bit lost and walked one huge round before taking the bus there. The place is big and seriously empty. Went to look around and bought a number of lingerie. Expensive but good! Proceeded to WuFenPu and it is really filled with enough clothes to dress the whole world I think. Spent a few hours there walking and I did buy a lot of stuff. Then went on to RaoHe Night Market , it was not bad.. quite a number of food stores, but we didn't eat much. I guess it's not fun to eat everything by myself.
Day 3 Wanted to go Yang Ming Shan and hot springs but woke up really late. Moreover it was raining so we skipped that and went to underground shopping malls to look around. Went to the Taipei City Mall, it was quite boring to tell the truth. Pretty similar to the Taipei Metro Front shopping mall which was nearer to our hotel.
Went to Danshui for sightseeing + food + shopping and the amount of food is simply huge! Had the Ah Ge which was tanghoon wrapped in bean curd skin , fishball soup and meat bun. The 101 potato chips was also really nice. I kept on saying that I wanted to eat this and that after our main meal but after main meal, I was really full to try anything.
Lover's bridge next. Took Red Bus26 to the end. It was raining so the scenary was nothing to be awed about. Had an entire roasted chicken for a snack? It was really quite thoughtful of them to provide us with plastic gloves while eating so that our hands will not be oily and dirty.
Next stop was supposed to be Shilin Night Market but I think I must be getting old. I was so tired that I decided to skip that and go back to the hotel for a rest. Hence, we decided to go to XiMenDing for dinner and shopping. It was raining which really put a damper on our moods. It's so hard to shop and walk with the rain coming down. Still, managed to get 2 bags at a cheap price of 300 and 200 NTD. Found a huge cosmetics + toiletries store opposite WonStar hotel. Didn't spend too much money there. Couldn't find the masks that I wanted.
Day 4 One of the most wasted days. Went to the Zhongxiao underground mall and basically saw the SAME things again. Boring. =( Wanted to make our way to Sogo but went to the wrong one, there are like 3 Sogos in the same vicinity. Was trying to look for Breeze Center but I was so tired (you see me repeating that again and again) that I gave up and went to WuFenPu for more clothes shopping.
Went back to hotel and made our way to ShiDa night market. This is the night market that you should go, many interesting stuff congregating at this one place. We had the best meal there throughout our whole trip to Taiwan. Hotplate noodles. The pork cutlet is like the most tender meat I have ever eaten. Nice nice nice!~ Store is called Niu Mo Wang. Too bad I don't take beef I am sure it would be really nice.
Day 5 Went to Hou Che Zhan and walked around. Saw Treasure Place but the accessories were very very expensive though super nice. Spend like $50 there for just 4 items. Ouch! It was starting to rain very heavily so had to make our way back to the hotel. Was totally drenched when we boarded the bus to airport.
Taipei in general is a very nice place. I just wished that I had put in more effort to do my research so that time wouldn't be spent on places that wasn't worth visiting and getting lost. But I guess part of the fun is getting lost? I didn't get to go Shilin Night Market which is like THE place to go when visiting Taipei but I have heard so much about it that I don't think I would have missed anything out. I do wish that I could have tasted more innovative food.
I think I will stay in the same hotel again next time. I think I will go back to Taipei again next time. I think I will be wearing the right shoes next time.
